Change Makers – Are We?

By Vandana. S. (Second year Masters in Mass Com, Jain University) Education plays an important role in creating knowledge, in bringing about changes. It is through education, knowledge, information the world leaders were able to bring about change, an evolution of movement for freedom. In today’s world when the literacy rate is so high, people should have been able to bring about greater changes. When we can access to information though different medium, we can bring about revolutionary changes. But rather than that, the institutions, society is limiting the thoughts of students and teaching us to learn only to earn money. How many parents are still encouraging the students to follow their dreams? More than that, how many of them are letting their kids to dream? They just force them to study. Study and score marks. They want their kids either to be an engineer or a doctor. The number of engineering institutions is increasing. In colleges, they offer courses that are commercial, ...

Disruption is courage!

Image
By Vishesh Anil Kumar  (3rd prize - St.Joseph's College Of Commerce, Bengaluru) There seems to be a year-on-year rise in socio-economic inequality around the world. In India itself, 1% of population owns 68% of the wealth (Credit Suisse, 2016) and a recent study by Oxfam suggests that 8 individuals in the world own more wealth than 36,000,000,000 (3.6 billion) of the poorest people in the world. These numbers suggest that our system and establishment is failing or at the least not doing enough to change things. Disruption is to ask, keep asking questions! The Brexit referendum and the rise of Donald Trump among various other events around the world shows that the people are afraid and have lost faith in their institutions and are resorting to irrational measures to bring the system back in balance. I believe these are just reflections of a deeper problem that is rooted in inequality. These statistics and events are not just the result of inefficient and corrupt poli...

Image
By Apeksha Arora ( 2 nd prize 1 st year MA-Journalism CMS COLLEGE, Bengaluru) Are we ready for the future? This question has probably struck each of our minds at a certain stage of our lives. And certainly, for a moment we did question ourselves “Are we actually ready for the future”. Perhaps, I would be right if I say that we aren’t ready for future until we are prepared for it. It’s an apt thought that we are our own destiny creators, we set the goal, create paths and strive hard to achieve them. Like a lighthouse that guides the ship in the same manner we lead the way to our lives. A snapshot of the YCC Conclave Gone are the days when a persons’ knowledge was his most influential possession today the world admires those who are informative to a grea t extent. Talking about knowledge it can easily be acquired by all those theory books we skim through in college or by being good at academics. But is that knowledge enough to get into an industry? The answer Is ob...
